I put in the bottom lash line and I don’t mean to toot my own horn too much but I’m genuinely in awe that I’ve accomplished this and can’t wait to see it finished. # # # # # # # # # #
A crochet blanket in progress. The body and bottom part of the face of a unicorn are the focal point, the background is mossy hills, lilac trees, dandelions in various stages of bloom, and thick green bushes.l

Here a wip of the artwork I am currently working. I like how she looks like, but the hands and the hair will be difficult for me.

It looks like I’m ready to start painting. Ion this one I will barely touch the paper with much colour at this stage, just enough to tint the paper. # # # # #
A pencil sketch depicting a street scene with buildings, vehicles, and church towers in the background. The artwork captures a perspective view of a sloped street with buses, cars, and pedestrians.

Toothpicks is my latest digital redraw of a 2020 sketch. I'm about two hours into this piece. # # #
Six coloured toothpicks rising out of a stoneware jar. Most of the piece is still just a red outline.
Red outline of toothpicks nestled in a small stoneware vase.

In 2023 I started teaching myself Clip Studio Paint as I began experimenting with an alternative to working exclusively with vector drawing. The process is much less demanding and intensive than my vector art workflow and produces a much more innate style.

This one was made between July and November 2024. I'm still not sure if it's done but I might get it printed up and have some fun hand finishing it.

White organic shaped lines and flowing forms on black background forming a circular ornamental mandalic pattern emanating outwards. The overall shape might resemble an intricately detailed heraldic shield.

I've been pretty quiet here the past couple of weeks. Mostly I've been trying to not get sick, and trying to stay hydrated.

I've done a bit of work on one of my personal pieces, but haven't finished it yet. Here's a glimpse of it anyway though.

A WIP of a winged raptor monster with skin like cooled lava. The cracks in her skin glow red with heat as she soaks in a pool of cool water.

Signature reads Scalebutt 2024

A little WIP I’m working on (while I have several others on hold, of course).

It’s a my first attempt at tapestry crochet and it will be a pouch I guess, if I manage to sew a zipper and lining onto it (by hand of course).

It’s a free pattern: https://www.lankava.fi/en/tahka-pouch-molla-mills/ :yay_cheer:

That website has some really cool free patterns :blobfoxlaugh:

a photo of my crochet work in progress. it’s a white and dark yellow pouch (well almost a third of the pouch) with a two balls of yarn attached to it, on a red surface. the pattern on the pouch it white background with dark yellow weat like plants in rows. one row finished and the next one a quarter done. I put a pink stitch marker to note where I am currently.

Work In Progress Nocturne, Calçada de Sao Francisco, Lisbon Oil On Linen
18” x 24”

I sort of thought this had been finished, but for some reason I didn't sign or varnish it yet. Then I looked over at it, and thought, what was I thinking? It needs SO MUCH work! Now I am trying to actually finish it. A ways to go still, but closer.

Ça vous dit un repouetage en direct sur la gravure d'une nouvelle lino ? Allez let's go !
(Je vous préviens ce sera pas forcément régulier parce que j'ai quelques obligations dans la semaine)

How about a live toot of a new linocut engraving? Allons-y!
(Please note, it won't be a regular live because I've got other things to do this week)

Extraordinary. The watercolour is behaving a bit like oil paint…# # #
A detail of a watercolour painting in progress of a small piece of shoreline with mud and some plants bordering a blue watery section.

A slow embroidery. Assisi cross stitch. Griffins and ornamental botanical filler motifs. Around 80k stitches in total. # # # # # # #
Black runner stitching, with olive green cross stitch filler background. Fantasy Griffins nestled amongst stylised botanicals. Approx 10cm/4" deep, on evenweave. DMC, in a Frame style, using negative space as a feature. I'll finish it with a filigree frame edging, and a separate, floating inner filigree frame for balance. Approx 84x84cm/33x33"

A quick update before lunch. The building at the top is looking good.

# # #
A WIP of a painting of some buildings by a quayside by the sea. There are houses, people milling about, some cars and some boats. The top half has been largely painted in watercolour, and below the pencil drawing is still visible.

Trying out the Blender 4.0, here's my thoughts:
- Light linking is fun
- New Principled BSDF is a massive improvement over the old one
- Native AgX support
- UI needs a lot of work. I can't get used to the lack of a search bar for the Shift+A menu in nodes and the viewport seems to flicker in solid view a lot. Some textures don't appear in solid mode either

# # # #
Viewport display of Blender 4.0, where a girl is stretching her arms back. The background is a grey color, but the lighting looks like something from a studio.

For # I got some new paint, and tried to decide which of these two colors looked better w/ the transflag colors. Left looks perfect....but the coverage isn't exactly what I wanted, and the blue was hard to use. The right is incredibly saturated but is really close to what I wanted for color density.

Hey there Mastodonians, I'd like to pick your brains about this piece I'm working on at the moment.

I'm at the stage where I'm letting it sit for a bit to see where and how I can improve on it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, about the piece overall and in detail about how I can make it better!

Boost for visibility would be appreciated

Digital illustration.

A skinny young boy with a grey mask for a face and yellow eyes looking downwards, out of his head various cacti are growing through a translucent umbrella that seems to be fixed on his head also.

He wears a bright yellow raincoat with blue buttons and he is holding an old, shabby, white and blue rowing boat cradled in his arms.

He is standing to his ankles in some kind of lake and is reflected in it.

The background is a foggy, blue night scene with some kind of weird ladders growing into the sky, which is full of stars.

an unfinished vector that is a bit like a goat if it were a stuffed animal. it is very round and has one button eye, and a light brown color. It has large black rounded lines that are meant to represent stitches

Head practice. I’ve been having a tough time with hair-do’s and beards. I can get absolutely lost in them sometimes and never feel like the painting is finished. Much like real hair do’s I suppose, you’ve got to set a time limit on how long you can fiddle around with it and then just move on and get out the house.

Welcome to #, a weekly # # for mastodon.art and beyond!

Theme for Aug 14-20: Writer's Block

Moments where words/ideas refuse to come are all too familiar to most. This week, look deeply into them; let frustration, triumph, defeat, whatever emotions such instances pull forth in you be fuel.

All genres are welcome, as are # excerpts! Just be sure to use the hashtag above!??

Always surprised how challenging it is to “go simple” when I style my comics. This is my latest attempt—for example, by going with a limited colour palette, and a minimalist composition. I’m sure I could take this even further, but it’s so hard! # # # # #
Panel one of four of a cartoon drawn in a vintage style with minimal detail. A character has stumbled upon a perfect yellow cube on the floor with a question mark printed on one side.
Panel two of four of the same cartoon. The character is now on his hands and knees next to the cube. The speech bubble reads, “Is this a mystery?”
Panel three of four of the same cartoon. The character returns to a standing position and is gazing upwards in deep reflection. The speech bubble reads, “Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. I can’t tell.”
Final panel of the same cartoon. A second character enters the frame. Both characters are glancing inquisitively at the box. The speech bubble above the second character reads, “Maybe you should open it.”

Theme for Aug 8-13: Root Systems

Just as the roots of trees interlace beneath the ground to support one another, so are we supported (or betrayed,) by people, places and systems. Let this idea be loam for your # this week.
