One time I drew an absolute unit (but also a nautilus, cuz reasons).

Finally got my brain to do some art! Sketched up this little dude for a welcome home card. I think it's a cute lil guy! ^^ hoping this means art block is finally broken!!

Cranky mandrake in a pot with a sign saying "Home Sweet Home". Has some leaves and dirt around it and a couple vials for potions.

Sketched with my still coviding friends yesterday. This is an emotive piece created with Caran d’Ache, watercolor, oil pastel and pencil. On mixed media paper. # # # # # # # # # #
A sketch with dramatic dark lines, muted yellow, blue and brown washes.

Today the Utrecht urbansketchers group went to Castle Zuilen.
This is my drawing. I had some struggles with perspective first. Then I decided not to think about the rules to much and fasten up a bit. Good decision. It was inspiring to loosen up and I had more fun. I like the contrast between the building and plants in the foreground.

Drawing of a castle in greytones. Plants in the foreground. Low viewer point so the castle looks impressive.

Dreadful weather for my entire holiday in # put a bit of a dampener on my # ambitions and this was one of about 3 studies I managed to squeeze into one very brief dry period :-(. I also forgot to bring my Gris Nuage ink for the wash so had to mix a sort of grey out of the brilliant green and magenta Herbin inks my kids got me as a birthday present, and some dark blue that was in my writing pen. Catastrophe after catastrophe ;-)

A pen and mono wash of the side of a Dutch holiday home in very acute perspective

I don't review art supplies very often, but I bought a nice landscape palette from Kremer Pigments and took it for a test run with some landscape sketching. It's really fun to paint with, the paints feel a bit different than your typical watercolor:

Small watercolor landscape sketch of an overcast, rainy landscape with rolling hills and fields, two bushes in the foreground.

Just popping on to share my progress. I'm taking a # challenge where I'm forcing myself to draw ten of something every time I draw (and colouring too, since it's been ages). Hopefully the repetition will help me build my technique. ✍🏻

A series of digital sketches of feet coloured in different skin tones.

Home #16 was my 8th residence once I left for college and also the 5th state I lived in. It's the only time I've lived west of the Mississippi - and it was barely that. A second-floor apartment in St. Louis Missouri.

Number 69. Nice.
Some more order pad art.

A rectangular, restaurant order pad, held in a hand, with a cartoonish sketch of a young woman winking at the viewer and smiling broadly. The word 'Nice!' is written above her. The order pad number is 69.

Some digital # on my phone this lunchtime (kinda fun to be so unused to the medium)
Sketches of some people at a cafe (and a sketch of a bottle)

Just published a new blog post: How I use fountain pens with colored inks for sketching.

I like fountain pens so much more for sketching than fineliners, the lines are so expressive and they're refillable (Take this, Big Pen).
I use the fountain pens with waterproof inks so I can paint over my linework - yes, that's possible, too. Fountain pens are just amazing drawing tools. <3

A rainbow colored selection of fountain pens.

Everybody seems quite proud of their little sketch kits, as am I of mine! Carrying this everywhere has really helped me keep vaguely productive.

Two brush pens, one with water in the reservoir and one with light grey ink. A half length black pencil and a compact red fountain pen with a brass clip. A small sketchbook showing a sketch of some trees backlit by morning sun, casting shadows toward the viewer. A small business card holder converted into a mini watercolor palette holding 5 pan of colour.

Tree study. Derwent charcoal pencil on white A4 sketchbook.
Got the pencils from my brother at Christmas, first time using them, they are great, lovely tones and they can be sharpened in my normal pencil sharpener! Bonus.

Having an iPad means I can draw during my lunch break on work, but it also means # took me like 25 minutes because I'm still unfamiliar with all Procreate's tools and options. Anyway, who cares, I had really fun lunch break!

Not exactly # beacuse it quite doesn't show man-made stuff; I had a walk on the mountains with my students, last week. On the right, actually, you can see a huge marble quarry ravine: it's mount Carchio, above Massa, Tuscany. Then the Apuane alps landscape, mount Sagro on the background.

My first r/SketchDaily exercise. The prompt is "midsummer day".

Reminded me of when I was in Mexico. It wasn't a midsummer day, but this prompt inspired me to do something with a temple dedicated to the Sun in an ancient setting.
