Had a flash of inspiration for the design of the Royal Guard in Foxblade

Sowing the seeds of despair in my new adventure.

While eating and drinking in the tavern, the characters overhear conversations at adjacent tables. At one, they hear a nervous human woman speaking in hushed tones to another. She is worried about dwindling fish supplies, and mentions catching nothing but old boots on her last boat trip. The other nods and adds that "the sooner we complete the ritual, the better."<br /><br />At another table, a little further away, a young male human named Dannis Pennywater has just turned eighteen. He is drinking his first pint "of the good stuff" with shaky hands. His friends smile and watch on in silence. <br /><br />After a moment, Dannis whispers "They want me on account of- of-" and stops. His friends nod, saying nothing.<br /><br />A DC 15 Wisdom (Insight) check spots a tear hanging from the corner of Dannis' eye.

A vulpine watcher puzzle for D&D<br /><br />This short riddle puzzle works in forest environments or areas touched by the Feywild.<br /><br />A carved wooden fox rests atop a lichen-encrusted tree stump before a split in the forest path. As you approach, its mouth opens and it speaks in a raspy voice that sounds like leaves rustling on the woodland floor.<br /><br />"Rest in this grove, humble travelers and hark unto my tale.<br /><br />Six strong marched this way, no hero at the back.<br /><br />What became of them a mystery, they left behind no tracks.<br /><br />The first was taken by the woods, to reign o'er the pack.<br /><br />Her oaken will made manifest by a motto that this lacks."<br /><br />If the fox is spoken to, it repeats its message.<br /><br />Puzzle Features:<br /><br />The road splits to the left or right. Each path looks identical. The wooden fox has been expertly carved, and comes to life when players approach. Casting detect magic reveals an aura of divination magic. The fox is not lying but cannot answer any other questions, save by repeating its riddle.

Writing really helps my mental health. I'd forgotten how much.

I love world-building and creating headspaces for people to explore. Since rediscovering my energy and applying myself to my latest # project (linked), properly, for the first time in decades I've written almost every night.

I've just hit 200 pages. This feels like a milestone. I suspect once "finished", I'll be looking at ~300 pages PDF. This feels good. Next month: playtesting
