Want to hear a story? (thread)
Every piece of art actually has two stories - the one I tell you, and the one that actually happened.

Here’s what actually happened for this piece - The Flickerjaw Snare Shark, the 1st creature I made for Astra Fauna!

It was Aug2018 and I REALLY wanted to make concept art for films. I decided that I’d make a personal project that showcased my creature design abilities...

pencil drawings of a shark creature with angler fish lures on ear like fins

First draft for my album artwork.

I drawed this picture a while back, I'm usually not a big figurative drawer but sometimes it just flow out - when I don't think too much.

I'm exploring a concept with this album, so let's see if this visual is "the one" to illustrate it!
Next stop: linocut printing, scanning and mocking up the artwork.

A pencil sketch showing someone lyong down in foetal position, surrounded by three standing silouhette.
The same drawing as in the previous photo, this time in the process of being made as a linocut.

Fear of the blank page. Sometimes I get over it by sketching people from redditgetsdrawn. Sometimes I even post those sketches there. I thought I would post some of them here, months later, out of order and only the ones that amuse me somehow.

A pencil sketch of a smiling bald man with glasses, a short beard, and a deep v-neck. There are some scribbles to the right of his head as if I started drawing the background and then gave up.
A rough pencil sketch/tone study of a woman with pixie-like short hair. Head only, the light is coming from the right.
Pencil sketch of a woman holding a baseball bat on her shoulders. Whole body, from the upper legs up. The arms are a little wonky, but this is sketch is about capturing a pose.
Rough pencil sketch of a man just standing there. Torso and head. It's not detailed at all, I don't know where the light is, and the only thing I like about it is the scribbles on the arms that suggest his sweater sleeves are scrunched up.

# - one of my first pencil sketches. A collage of nature scenes related to a rock garden.

I began on the top left; with some doubts & uncertainty. Sketching again for the first time after a year, I tend to overthink & worry too much if it wouldn't work or that I'd ruin it. At first, I only used the first three values.

Then I started to feel more confident as I worked my way to the middle. This time, I used darker values, charcoal pencil + mono eraser. It turned out wayy BETTER; its more refined with more depth. Can't wait to show it once it's completed!

An unfinished graphite and charcoal drawing of a side-swept ponytail hairdo. Most of the head part is already refinely sketched while the ponytail is still in rough lines.

I haven't posted in a while...
Instead of an older, completed drawing, here is a sketch of a part of a drawing I'm currently working on.
Today is a national holiday here, so I might have some time for continuing to draw.

A pencil sketch of a Christmas rose

This was one of the earliest pencil drawings I did.

I still don't particularly like it as I was personally coming out of a very dark place at the time after a life changing health issue.

Also the light in the picture isn't bright enough for my liking🙄

I did like the monochrome black & white aesthetic however.

This was also the first drawing I showed to my friends.
Silhouetted figure walks down a very dark alley with a overpowering bright light in the distance.

An early pencil sketch I did, about 2 months after I started drawing (in my mid-40s). And the first time I thought "Yeah, that's half decent".
