A large building in the distance with a fence and some trees: A sound effect "rumble" The trees begin to shake, an even larger "rumble" sound effect. A creature bursts up through a geyser of ooze. The creature spins through the air lands with a *Whump* and then falls onto its back with a *Flumpf*. The creature lies with ooze and its tv around it and says: "Well that solves that problem".

A worried look: "It's not working!" A shocked face, the ooze goes "Sporple" "ahh it's moving!" The creature is stuck in a big wave of ooze: "SPLOOSH" the creature is terrified as the ooze almost covers them. The ooze fills the panel.

They play some Tetris lying down in front of a TV. They pour some milk in to a tea mug on a counter. Looking down at their hand covered in ooze: "Yuck". They get a worried look on their face. They get a very worried look and start to tremble. With a look of dispair: "GULP".

With a look of despair: "I really have to do something" Looking at its smartphone it panics "aaaahh". A Smartphone screen reading: "Emergency 888" and "Mild Emergency 292929. It's hair all frazzled the character says: "well I don't want to be a bother" The screen then reads: "Mild Emergency 292929 Dialling..." In the final panel The creature sits worried and sad with a phone to its ear.

Happy Halloween! This year, I decided to pay tribute to the genre defining classics (and early precursors) of the silent era.

Behind him, in a foggy haze is Quasimodo, from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, looking downward, forlorn. Well whadaya know? It's # ! Here are the four previous years' illustrations. I tend to stretch the definition of mermaid to be something a little more... Lovecraftian. What will I come up with this year? You'll have to wait and see! # # #
