Another painterly painting. I'm really enjoying this slightly new, quicker, looser direction, and the bright warm colours made me happy while I was working on it. Enjoy the quick time lapse gif,
the full 6 min video is here: https://youtu.be/5wtiGkvs8e0
Print available here: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/helenmclaughlinart/bluebells-at-sunset/

A digital painting of a carpet of bluebells in a wood at sunset. Bright, orange and yellow lighting shines from the back of the scene, through painterly, blurred trees, and picks out details on deep purple flowers in the foreground.

As you may know I have quite the mushroom production here xD

Working for the upcoming convention, there's still a lot to do. Meanwhile this little fella sprouted. It's not for sale, in fact it's a gift and travels to a foreign country <3

Fare well little baby!

Spending time at a waterfall on hot days can be incredibly refreshing and beautiful. The sound of rushing water, the cool mist in the air, and the lush surroundings can create a soothing and rejuvenating experience.

Small waterfall in the forest. Moss grows on the rocks.

No idea what's this. Maybe apple rose?

edit: it's unanimous, we're convinced it's a yew tree. Thanks, everyone 😀

photo of a little red, round kind of fruit in the center of the image. The sides are filled with leaves and there's a little bit of cloudy sky on the upper left side.

More gouache and watercolour practice, indecisiveness ruined the border for this one but lesson learnt for next time!

I almost never sell originals and I almost never do sales, and I’m doing both! (A bill urgently needs paying!)

This is the second set of woodland and wildflower illustrations. The background leaves are in gold, from straight on they are a warm ochre, when the light catches them they have a metallic shine.

All 40 are available from my website 💚

Hummingbirds move around so much I always feel like they're being polite for me when they actually sit still for a photo.

Anna's Hummingbird. Colony Farms, Coquitlam, BC. April 2022.

A photograph of a female Anna's Hummingbird. It is a tiny bird with a white throat and iridescent green back and head. It has small wings and a long slender beak.

Some practice shenanigans with plants and fungi using mixed media, bit of gouache, watercolour, colour pencils and pen liner. I still have a long way to go 😅

Blue fungi and a group of white fungi, green leafy plant in a pot and a solitary green leaf

OK, I could have sworn there was a # photo that looked like this, but now I can’t find it? Ah well, enjoy this scrap # # scene anyway

#
Scrap fabric is crumpled & layered to make a scene of mountains rising from the ocean. Wispy clouds flow around the mountain top while fluffier clouds float higher in the sky.

The great thing about moving to a new media platform is now I have an excuse to re-post all my favourite pics!

Yellow-rumped Warbler, Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, May 2022.

# # # # #
A picture of a Yellow-rumped Warbler. It is a small grey and black bird with striking yellow under its chin, on its head, and on its wings and butt. It is sitting on a plant that is covered in small purple leaves and small flower buds.

There was a mosquito buzzing around the apartment while I painted. I think it hit my subconscious just right; these bees came out looking at bit mosquito-y

Nature is always the best inspiration. We should explore more the world around us. I like the idea of doing some little guides... this is just little study on leaf shapes. # # # # # #

Back out and about today. A short stroll around Lodge Lake in Milton Keynes.

Here is a Little Egret who flew into a tree right before my eyes. (more to follow).

Wegwarte / chicory

You can really find them at every field path these days here, as you could expect from the German name 'Wegwarte' (translated literally 'path lookout'). Lovely little flowers.

This is Bøsdalafossur waterfall, the outlet from Sørvágsvatn lake in the Faroe Islands.

The lake sits 40m above sea level, surrounded by cliffs that hem it in, and looks for all the world like it's warped spacetime to inhabit this position.

# # # # # # # #
A white cascade of frothing water sweeps haphazardly down the merciless cliffs into a wild sea beneath a grim and cloudy sky.

https://www.reddit.com/user/justerikfotos/
The lake and sea are both eerily calm with matching shades of blue. The subtle criss-crossing waves appear in a different direction in the lake compared to the sea, and the lake is surrounded by green-tinged land atop the cliffs, creating the impression that the lake has been badly photoshopped into place.

Yesterday I was watching the reflections of fluffy clouds against a blue sky on the water.

Today, not so much fluff.

The pitter-patter of raindrops on the brolly were pleasing though.

Ok, there was one nice bird. These splendid wrens are difficult to photograph - they are tteeeeeny and move very quickly, and when you do get them the colours are SO bright they look plastic and fake. # # # #

"The Forest" is an illustration thinking about the fauna & flora of the natural park of Montejunto in Portugal. There is a small exhibition in Santarém and all the sales revert to the wildlife recovery center of Montejunto :)

Red Lionfish, one of the first watercolors I put in my # shop. Capitola Dreaming is a recent painting, also in my shop. Started in August 2020, my first online shop was kind of a pandemic project. It's been interesting, and now it will close in just a few days. Prints, decor, gifts are here for a short time ➡️ https://society6.com/elizabethkennenwatercolors
