@knitting @Curator @nature I seem to have hit a patch of sadness for no apparent reason in the middle of my shift. Please share cheerful, bright, happy things. They can be sarcastic cartoons, photos of nature, beautiful art, knitting, abstract weirdness, anything. I just need a perk up please. # #

Do you get tired of trying to fit in? Bending over backwards, tying yourself in knots trying to be what everyone thinks you should to be? Why is it so hard to line up with the other plastic flamingos?

Society is obsessed with numbers: your weight, your clothing size, your bank account, and your social media popularity are just some of the ways you're measured.

What do these stats help you understand your own experience of the world? Of all the records about you, which one do you feel best represents you in real life?

take a load off. life's too short.

(besides not owing anyone anything...) # could use a Clearly Claire/a dev partner. One person shouldn't ever have to shoulder everything alone.

Debated whether to share as a SilentSunday or to talk about it. I do love nature (see my other photos today), but nothing calms my neurodivergence like an abstract environment. Nothing is living within this plane. Nothing living is even being represented or hinted at. My mind can rest.

Btw, if you're feeling much better now that you've left the bird site... Don't forget to consider what Facebook and Instagram are (still) doing to you. # #

As a very goal oriented person, I find it very hard to chill and enjoy the process (for anything).

Any process-minded people here? How do you do it?

Becoming a mum has made me aware of so many things… like, who I actually am. Children are such an honest mirror long before they can talk. It’s scary but I think I’m ready to leave the box and accept responsibility for my life.

Cartoon with 4 panels. Panel 1: person with a big wooden box in their arms, smiling. Text: “ when I was younger they gave me a box for me to fit into “
Panel 2: the same person is down twice. First inside a thing and long box. Only the head and feet can be seen. Then inside a star shaped box, with head, hands and feet sticking out at the tips of the star. Text: they were nice, too, and allowed me to try different shapes and sizes.
Panel 3: white text in black background: but at one point I realised I can either get rid of the box — or make myself smaller to fit into it.
Panel 4: text: guess which one I chose. The person is down again, crouching inside a box that’s visibly too small

Art anxiety. It's a fear that too many artists have. It stops us from ever getting started on anything or it makes it impossible to finish a piece. It quashes our desire to share our art with others. It's the intense worry that everything we do is being judged negatively.

This video explains how I deal with it (and how you might too): https://gwennseemel.com/blog/2021/1208-ef-practicing-death/

Let's add "trees" here... What are the equivalent? Can Emojis be hashtagged to help perceived health in Mastodon, like in nature? # I never had Twitter so I don't know what the limits are, but I imagine more positive than negative visuals/images can only help humans within tech environments, which is why I think the art hubs here are flourishing @Curator @feditips # # # # # # # # #

Writing really helps my mental health. I'd forgotten how much.

I love world-building and creating headspaces for people to explore. Since rediscovering my energy and applying myself to my latest # project (linked), properly, for the first time in decades I've written almost every night.

I've just hit 200 pages. This feels like a milestone. I suspect once "finished", I'll be looking at ~300 pages PDF. This feels good. Next month: playtesting
