Andromeda Galaxy: Edzikorians. # # # # # # # # # #

Edzikor is a planet covered in volcanoes in the Andromeda Galaxy. The environment is uninhabitable for most species (for the heat, lava, and toxic gasses that cover the world) but the Edzikorians thrived there by evolving the ability to naturally take in surrounding rocks and metals to create extremely hard shells. cont

Counter-Earth - The Witchbird. # # # # # # # # # # # # #

A species of three-headed carrion fowl common to Ezkeel, the farthest moon of Clarion. The Witchbird, so-named because of its distinctive bony crests and head-plumage that superficially resemble stereotypical witch hats, flies above the barren, rocky terrain of its small world searching for carcasses to devour.

Eggworld is a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy that is inexplicably shaped like a giant bird egg. It's home to a race of intelligent creatures that resemble flightless and vaguely humanoid versions of the waterfowl of Earth.

Counter-Earth - The Air Boar. # # # # # # # # # # # #

Thought I'd do another Counter-Earth creature design. This one isn't based on any pop-culture thing in particular, other than the old "When pigs fly" phrase and a pun on the word "airborne."

„It’s the first day of November and so, today, someone will die“

With "the scorpio races", Maggie Stiefvater has written a fantastic book about the rough sea and creatures that come ashore once in fall. The book is about an unusual friendship, if you can call it that, and how wild creatures cannot be tamed.

This was the book that made me fall in love with Kelpies.

A creature that looks similar to a sea horse but with a much more horse-pronounced head and decay-vibe. You don’t want to meet one of them in the dark

Giving Mastodon a go, hoping this all works and makes sense. I’m Joshua, I’m doing my PhD in ecology and also do digital art, character design and creature design! I write fiction, I love bugs, I am completely scattered and inconsistent and like trying new things. I also sell my art on my etsy: https://pixelvistas.etsy.com

A woman sits on the floor of a white chamber opposite a very large spider. Her hands are on the floor in a position mimicking a spider. The chamber has a window that opens into stars.

Hello, I guess I should post a short #! I'm a nonbinary, 27 yo digital artist. I'm usually the type to just lurk on social media sites rather than interact with people (social anxiety 😖), but I'm going to try and break out of my shell and post my work here! # # # # # #

I saw some of your incredibly fun entries for the wonderfully # # . So I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Here is mine, the octopus is based on a # (yes, its actual name!). Ostropus stalks the mudflats in search of shells and crabs and sticks its head into the mud to dig them out with its tentacles. This was really fun and I discovered an incredibly powerful workflow as well!

A digital painting of an Ostropus, an ostrich with an octopus for a head. It walks across a mudflat and has just pulled out its head from the mud. "SLURP" is written in large letters besides it.

I want to make a creature design portfolio with really consistent pieces of work using the the workflow of Hardy Fowler, from Digital Painting Studio. I'm just in time for the last day of #, so here you go: A mermaid/merfolk inspired by an #! I forgot to record the creation process, unfortunately. I'm probably going to focus on creature design the coming weeks, so you can expect more of these kinds of work.

I've been working on a bit of a redesign of my Stars Without Number character, and got sidetracked making this developmental chart for his species.

# # # #
A chart depicting developmental milestones for a sentient alien species known as a 'Hindwing' - from egg, then tadpole-like hatchling, then additional intermediaries up to a juvenile form that closely resembles an adult. The juvenile has chameleon-like eyes, forelimbs resting above the head, a frilled tail, and hind limbs consisting of pterosaur-like wings. Their skin has been stained with blue markings to indicate their caste.

Gryphon Watercolour Painting

For my mythical birds project

I gave these gryphons a more lion-like body plan. Though its still avian and not a literal bird/lion hybrid. Wings are a bit to small to fly but they can aid in pouncing after prey.

Counter-Earth - Glochees. # # # # # # # #

An intelligent species occupying the Frozen North of Clarion, the Glochees have long been an exploited minority among the Udak-ruled region, particularly under the brutal Drun dynasty. They are known for their fierce sense of independence and a long tradition of freedom fighters.

These guys are a combination of Star Wars' Wookiees and the hockey mascot Gritty.

A new episode of my podcast is out! We discuss The Steam Man of the Prairies and the Edisonade subgenre it inspired. Clean cut boy-inventors using new-fangled technology to conquer the frontier for white--er, American interests. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I always liked the idea of Molemen as a pulp concept, but there weren't a lot of Public Domain takes on it that I cared for (There was one I came across by Charles Diffen, but I find his work incredibly boring and I didn't even bother to read it). Instead, I decided to make my own race of Mole-Folk based on the features of star-nosed moles and naked mole rats. # # # # # # # # # #
