Another finished crow. Kind of love painting western red cedar scales.
This is a 5x5 on in oil paint. I started using walnut oil based paints a few months ago because linseed was making me sick and i feel like i have a good handle on it now
Swifts! Swifts in the blue blue sky over the garden.
I was getting worried about the lack of swift sighting (but then I've also been the very indoor person for the past week as I put all my energy in rest and recovery). I am now smiling from ear to ear.
Still playing with the colors and doing monochromatic studies. This one separates really nicely when painting. I also did some mixes too, to see how it reacts.
But honestly most fun was to paint this fun "hair" on the bird, which I painted without using white or masking fluid. And I'm super happy how it turned out. Everything else comes just second.
What is true: birds need vertical barriers that segment glass visually 4 inches apart, so that they perceive the verticals as a barrier to flight. You can make these using wood or plastic strips and paracord. For DIY instructions: https://www.birdsavers.com/make-your-own/ The cords are not ugly. Since I installed mine when a pine siskin hit my balcony window five years ago, I haven’t had a single bird strike. It’s most crucial to do this if you live in a leafy area & your window glass reflects foliage. #birds 2/2
for urban and migratory birds, the biggest human-caused hazards are habitat loss, cat predation, and building strikes. Cats should be kept indoors: that’s a hill I’ll die on (and the shelters I’ve adopted from required a pledge to that effect.) People can petition cities to fix building codes—but we can also amend our own dwellings to keep birds safe. This article quotes “building experts” that “decals” on windows work best to prevent strikes. That isn’t true. https://wapo.st/4cfAWNz #birds 1/2
I never understood all the holiday songs and sayings about robins, they’re just common birds. The North American robins are, anyway. Turns out European robins are cute AF. (Not my photos)
Thought I'd do an #introduction I'm Ellie, a #ceramicist specialising in #birds and #wildlife I am #actuallyautistic and trying to be brave by branching out into the big wide world a little more. Figured the best introduction would be one showing off my newest piece out of the kiln, this tree full of the #owls of the UK.
Hello, I guess I should post a short #introduction! I'm a nonbinary, 27 yo digital artist. I'm usually the type to just lurk on social media sites rather than interact with people (social anxiety 😖), but I'm going to try and break out of my shell and post my work here! #pokemon #dragons #creaturedesign #birds #digitalart #artistsofmastodon
some old little banner thingies that i drew in 2020 for my patreon at the time.. i have not been able to keep the patreon properly active for longer than maybe a year unfortunately.. i still like these though
Ok, there was one nice bird. These splendid wrens are difficult to photograph - they are tteeeeeny and move very quickly, and when you do get them the colours are SO bright they look plastic and fake. #birds #birdphotography #nature #photography
