Finally bought a pretty decent set of studio lights (second-hand).

A few years ago I studied photography, so I already have a good camera with a very good lens.

I also know how to photograph art ... in theory 😅🤣

So there are really no excuses left. I can now make decent pictures and put them on my website.

Dear fellow #, what do you do when you have the feeling that everything you draw/paint looks like shit? :(

When we had the last big wave of users in April I saw a lot of people were hesitant to post their work after seeing so many wonderful artists here, so I made the # tag. The people watching that hashtag know to treat the posts with kindness and to provide encouragement. Post your photography there <3

I started getting back into # this summer. It was a childhood hobby that I’d let go. Trying to pick it back up as a small meditative practice. I hope to replace that extra time wasted being addicted to Twitter with meaningful creation. This is my first time sharing my art online #
Pen and colored pencil drawing of a snake plant in a large terracotta pot with a small English ivy tucked next to it and overflowing a bit. A third plant, a pothos, grows out of a a repurposed glass jar. The caption in the notebooks says “1 july 2022 11:40 pm” and then at the bottom it says “my plants 12:10 am heart”

Sit down, get comfortable, take a deep breath. Look around at your .art neighbours; enjoy the work they share. Let your creative knots unwind. Rediscover the joy of creating because you love to create.

Nobody judges you here for posting works in progress or experiments (see # ). Nobody judges you for sharing links to your Patreon or Ko-Fi or your shop links (in fact, we love it - the fediverse is a huge supporter of buying people's art).

We got you. :bob_ross:

stayed up late trying to practice lighting, the thing I'm objectively worst at. it... wasn't great. but i will keep trying!

i think my use of colour and the shape lures you into thinking the lighting makes sense.

I did it! I replicated the lamp lights in #. Using Light2D, Particles2D, AnimationPlayer and some pixels by yours truly. My first little # / # project.

Today I made some trees. I think they go quite well with the grass tileset, what do you think? :)

# I need to get out of my own way. I wanted to do the # challenge but I put it off so long that my end option was a quick sketch in the garden. Might add some colour, but for now we have a pencil sketch of honesty and poppies

thanks # is such a good idea! Let's just have fun and play a bit with lines and colours:)

My drawings are usually very cluttered and detailed. In this practice I tried to do the opposite. Quite unfamiliar. I think next time I will leave a bit more white space. # # # #
A quick and dirty abstract and monochrome watercolour painting in portrait format. There are several random brushstrokes in different shades of a greyish blue. Looks a bit like bamboo leafs

I posted this on my mastodon social, but I figured I ought to do so here as well. This is unfished, and advice is welcome :) # # #
A digital painting of a white elephant with red spots peeking out for a cardboard box. The background is sky blue.

Wanted to try something new and have noticed I need MUCH more practice! ✍️ 🫣 At least the frog is nice 🐸
I know it’s only a quite small pre-sketch, any suggestions what I could improve? #
Young witch in a dark grey tanktop. She is wearing a hat, green trousers ans stripey socks. On one hand she holds an owl, on the right side is a grey cat looking up towards the owl. On the left side a barrel, on top sitting a frog.

Reminder to check the # tag to leave some positive feedback on people's work <3 (And post there, if you're an artist who's struggling with valuing your own work as good and want some encouragement to keep going!)

I managed to art! # # is # a tag used here?
Purple watercolour portrait, quite abstract without detailed features

# is a great idea for a tag.

I was in a special art program in HS, art was My Thing for most of my life. But then stopped creating art for ...around 20 years. I'm trying to get the rust out of my system by making digital art every day.

So, that's my story. What's yours?

Also hands, I draw a lot of hands. I've never really been impressed by any of the hands that I've drawn but this pointing one that I did last night is pretty alright.

When drawing, I've been practicing faces a lot lately. This guy I thought came out really interesting.

Okay, @Curator challenge - # , so here's an # I'm frustrated and embarrassed about.

This is absolutely crap character animation -- unless I was trying to do some creepy horror thing. But I am not.

Also, the ragdoll toy's movement is totally wrong. I decided I actually need to create a "ragdoll rig" to simulate its movement, instead of animating manually.

But the technician's movement is the bit I'm really frustrated with.

Whoops! Forgot my tags! # # # with # - semi # drawn on a diner ticket.

Starting a tag for people who are struggling with making art because they're not up to their own standards.

#

Draw something little. Just have a go A little flower or some leaves or something abstract. Then share it with that tag.

People browsing the tag: be kind and encouraging. Help people get into the habit of drawing regularly and not being afraid of being 'bad'. :bob_ross:
