I took a course back in 2017 where the assignment was to visit buildings, sketch them, and write about them. It was one of the happiest things I’ve ever done. I should still do it TBH.

Anyway here is a series of details from the course.

- Krämerstraße -
Inksketch of a view down Krämerstraße with narrow and decorative house fronts. In medieval times, when the grid of streets was laid out, the adjacent properties were cut to be narrow, but with long backyards. So the houses were built wall to wall but quite high, which added dry and well aired storage in the upper floors (or, mark the word, storeys). Later in the 15th to 17th century new fassades were built in front of the old or refurbished medieval houses.
