Removed this large Fire Salamander from the well.

It either lived there (the well is mostly dry due to a leak) or it got syphoned into it with today's heavy #. It was resting on top of the only bit of rock that stood above the water surface.

Any advice on how/where to release this fella? I know they need access to water so I might need to find a stream or pond of sorts in the vicinity.

Vector drawing in dark greens and blues of a night-scene with a highland cow on a small peninsular. The cow's reflection in the water reflects the milky way in the sky above. There's a crow sittig on the cow's back but in the reflection it is somehow in flight.

Lately I've been treating canvases on my ipad as sketchbook pages, letting myself just doodle and then refining the pieces I actually like. Very fond of this silly chubby great white and might make it September's sticker.

Digital painting of a tiger swimming in a lake. The tiger is orange and white with black stripes. Its head is above the water, looking at the viewer. Its back is visible but the lower half of its body is submerged with waves radiating from it. The water appears black with a slight violet tinge. Clusters of light blue glowing algae are floating on the water. There's a strong blue glow in the water around the tiger, shining onto its face and body.
Digital drawing of my two male anthro OCs Gabriel and Beizeben. Gabriel is a fluffy golden cat wearing hot pants with pansexual pride colors and no shirt. Beizeben is a dark grey doberman pinscher with a black and red-highlighted faux hawk, wearing a bisexual pride tank top and jean shorts. They're both holding handheld pride flags. They're walking on a brick street spray painted with pride colors. On each side of the street is a concrete sidewalk and brick buildings with different colored accents. The drawing is overlaid with colorful translucent confetti.
Digital painting of a chipmunk in a sunflower. The brown chipmunk is in the middle of a yellow sunflower tilted toward the sky. The chipmunk has tan and black stripes on its face and a black and white stripe down its body. It's munching on a sunflower seed. There are more sunflowers in the background, and the sky is light blue with a couple puffy white clouds.
An ink and watercolor painting of my springer spaniel dog fursona Nicole taking care of some plants. She's wearing round glasses, a purple witch hat, a long purple patchwork coat, a blue tunic-style shirt, a brown belt, and a ruby necklace. On the table in front of her are pots with catnip, mums, aloe, christmas cactus, dandelion, succulents, and a vine. A large snake plant is by the table. Behind her is a bookcase with books and another succulent. On top of the bookcase is a purple vine plant and a grey cat. Nicole is picking some catnip leaves off the plant on the table, and the cat is watching, hoping that he gets some of it.

I don't often come on here because my timeline is usually just politics, which is fine and very necessary but it can be quite draining.

Any recommendations for people to follow who like and mostly talk about #, #, #, # or #?
Or just # in general 🥰

Happy #, everyone! Want some Pride merch from someone who WON'T move it to the back of the store when fascists whine about seeing it?

I'm an Ace, gay artist with a series of cute, punny illustrations based upon scientifically accurate, amazing facts about how queer the animal kingdom is.

The "Queer Zoology Series" is available in my shop as prints, and for a limited time, as T-shirts. NOTE: t-shirt and print shops are two separate links.

Here are the final two letters from the # series I did in 2011. These were submitted to the online group project on September 19 and 26.

The Y's simplicity was due to the inordinate amount of time I'd spent on the X. The Z was mostly done while my wife and I were manning our booth at that year's Capitals Con in Washington, DC. In between visits from hockey fans, I threw ink down.

Thus ends six months of weekly animal drawings! Up next: AlphaBeasts!

# # #
"Y" is for Yaninon. A simple black ink sketch of a Great Northern Wombat standing outside its burrow.
"Z" is for Zebu. A high contrast ink drawing of the large, hump-backed bovine.

Here are the next four letters from my 2011 #, from June 27, July 4, 11, and 18.

Up to this point my weekly drawings had all been mostly done on a small pad of scrap ivory cardstock that was about 5x8 in (127x203 mm). Starting with thr letter O, I began drawing them all at 11x15 in (279x356 mm).

# # # #
"M" is for Marsbou. A colored pencil sketch of a large, unappealing member of the stork family.
"N" is for Numbat. An ink sketch of an adorable insectivore marsupial.
"O" is for Ocelot. A color pencil drawing of the smallest of the great cats.
"P" is for Platypus. An ink drawing of one of the weirdest mammals on Earth.

on day 62 of # # I drew a bunch more goldfish, trying to find image references with poses other than a straight profile. I still want to draw more # :)

# #
three sketches of goldfish in different poses, done in black ballpoint pen and black brush pen

on days 61 & 63 of # # I finished some of the watercolors I had started on day 39 (https://mastodon.art/@playinprogress/110017016364567217 ).

This # and # were _very_ satisfying to finish, and I learned a lot from them. In fact I learned so much that I immediately had the urge to start over with new versions or very similar images at least, but did not yet get around to that. So many things!

on day 57 of # # I was back to doing a simple line sketch, even if I was doing flamingos yet again

# #
a page with 5 sketches of standing flamingos in dark brown ink

on day 55 of # # I also started a bunch of more involved larger watercolors of Flamingos, and continued working on them on day 56. Here are some progress pics :) The first one I consider finished, though I got some feedback on it from a teacher that made me consider doing a second version. Maybe some day!

# # #
a rough drawing on tan paper of a flamingo, with the background hinted at in gray and green watercolor washes, but no color yet on the flamingo
the same piece as before, but now the flamingo in the middle has been rendered in shades of white, pink red, orange and black, mostly in watercolor but with some details and texture of the feathers done in colored pencil
a work in progress of a watercolor of a flamingo done on dark green paper, with the background of lush green foliage already put in, but the flamingo itself nothing more but an empty spot and some very rough pen lines
the same sheet as before, but this time with the first washes of pink, white, grey and orange gouache for the flamingo put in. still very unfinished, especially the beak and eye are not yet visible

On day 55 of # # I continued looking at flamingos, delightfully weird flamboyant flamingos, this time with some color studies, still gathering information for my personal flamingo drawing cheat sheet.

# #
a tan sheet of paper in portrait format, with two studies of flamingos in watercolor, using intense reds, pink, white and black
a tan sheet of paper in landscape format, with a study of a single flamingo standing and bending its neck downwards, in watercolor, using intense reds, pink, white and black, and a dark green grey background

On days 53 & 54 of drawing # I started a deep dive on # trying to assemble a bunch of "flamingo drawing cheat sheets" for myself. The idea was to collect all the information I would need to enable me to draw flamingos without reference in the future. So these contain a bit more details than my usual sketches, crammed unto A3 sheets rather than my usual A4s.

# # #
a page with drawings in ink of a flamingo skeleton on the left, three flamingo heads and a flamingo skull on the right, with some of the heads colored in with colored brush pens
a page with drawings in purple ink of flamingos standing in various poses, with some of the sketches colored in with colored brush pens
a page with various sketches in purple ink of flamingos flying, with some details added in black brush pen
a page with studies of flamingo heads from different angles, mostly done in pink ballpoint pen, some finished with bright red and black brush pen

days 44-46 of drawing # back to black #

(I got my scans & drawings mixed up while my scanner was broken down so the number on the file differs from the number on the paper. I am sticking to the number on the file because that is easier, and from ca. day 55 on or so stuff is aligned again 😅 )

#
3 sketches of squirrels in black ink
a drawing in black ink of the bust of a stag with beautiful antlers
a drawing in black ink of a fox with a cub
a drawing in black ink of a full figure of a stag on the left and a more detailed view of the head of a stag on the right

day 42 of drawing animals. I repeated the chicken dance of doing some studies from ref pics and then going out to draw my neighbors' living chicken, adding some details (heads, feet) back home. I enjoyed playing around with different ways to use line and # in these, not sure which version (lines first, watercolors first, broad watercolored lines first) is my favorite yet. I might have to play around with them some more...

# # #
two pages of chicken studies after reference, done in various shades of brown and black ink
two pages of watercolor sketches of chicken from life, with some details in the heads and feet added with brown fineliner later
two pages of watercolor sketches of chicken from life, with some details in the heads and feet added with brown fineliner later

day 41 of my # of # #. For this day I first did some # studies from video (paused), then went to draw my neighbor's living chickens. Then took my rough (very!) sketches home and added some details (heads, feet) from my by now accumulated generalized chicken knowledge.
two pages of quick sketches of chicken in brown felt tip pen

days 39-40 of my # of drawing animals. I continued working on some watercolors and more intentionally to be finished stuff - with the result that except for the elephants that were actually finished at this point, the rest is still languishing in my room in the same state like, 2 weeks or so later. Gah. I hope I'll have the energy to actually finish them this week!

I started the challenge here in January: https://mastodon.art/@playinprogress/109699531519354873

a watercolor of a bright green frog on a branch overgrown with moss, painted on light brown paper

a sketch of a wasp drawn in dark brown felt tip pen on light brown paper
a watercolor or rather gouache drawing on light brown paper of a light grey egret in flight, seen from the side, with the wings stretched out

For # a pic from two years ago. Dressy (my # mare) with baby Azira (half Arabian). Azira is grown up now... and still pretty adorable. But maybe not quite THIS adorable 😍

aaaand days 7-10 of 100 Days of Drawing animals

# # # # #
a page of sketches of water buffalos, focusing on their heads and horns
a page of sketches of various animals: two yaks, one antelope and one tiger
a page of sketches of ravens, some standing around some flying or about to alight
a page of sketches of warthogs in various poses

I started a new # this time the theme is drawing animals. It is super enjoyable so far - I had another one going last year about drawing with a nib pen or brush in ink, but somehow lost steam there. So this is something fun and sweet for me to ease into. And I am still getting my ink drawing workouts in, even if I am using mostly my Noodler's Ahab fountain pen + various brush pens for these.

sketches of various chameleons as wells a fly

Hi guys! I love cats and symmetric things - so i drew this and made a sticker!
I think it looks pretty fancy :>

I'm feeling so tired and nauseous today that I called in sick for the first time at work in 2 years UghHh ...

So before I go melt into my couch and potato all day I'll drop off some more Critters here, it looks like my 2020 folder was hiding from me and it has all my good ones too! So here goes!
