I had my work shown at a small art show last weekend in a cute local coffee shop, migrant + woc owned

The theme was “april showers”. I'm always surprised that vast majority of people don't make political art. For this show only one other piece was, featuring poppies and mentioning Palestine in the title 🇵🇸

I painted this for a friend's wedding - each table will have a centerpiece that has been created by one of her 'arty' friends and I was honoured to contribute! One of the suggested themes was 'Discworld' so as a Terry Pratchett fan I went with that - a mixed media depiction of The Great A'Tuin.

A vibrant mixed-media artwork depicting The Great A'Tuin from the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett. This looks like a top down view of a turtle swimming through space, with a large earth-like disc on it's back.

Today I’m continuing work on my new collage: “Girl with a Pearl Earring”.
I’ve combined a photo of Vermeer’s original painting, a house wall I photographed in Stuttgart-Mitte, and my own drawings. I used various Procreate brushes for overpainting, and the collage will also serve as a découpage and a negative for cyanotypes.

Alt-text for the collage: A digital collage inspired by Vermeer’s painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. The original portrait is combined with the texture of a house wall photographed in Stuttgart-Mitte and hand-drawn elements by the artist. Layers of overpainting and textures were created using various Procreate brushes, resulting in a dynamic, multi-layered artwork. The collage is intended to function as both an independent piece and a template for cyanotypes and découpage. The colors and textures appear vibrant and experimental, while the iconic motif of the girl remains recognizable.

Some doodly-painting, which has been on my 'want to do' list for so long! Gosh it was so fun. :D I've been really inspired by the recent "reverse coloring books" stuff trend too. Sometimes it's super fun just letting loose and seeing what happens 😊

I'm #, # , # , # and I wanted to share some of my art with you.
I've been drawing since before I could speak, and I'm 53 now! I have a vast amount of work to show, so I decided to just share my four latest pieces, along with my links.

Art is my main form of communication and is really my only way to get through to other people. Some people think because I use a cute vocabulary, my art is just funny -and that's ok, but I hope viewers can see that I'm trying to express something deeper than that.

One of my lifelong projects is # Series, which I started in 2009 and continue to this day, showing my takes on the records that made me who I am. Music is my main inspiration in life!

I've worked as a graphic designer my whole adult life, until the beginning of COVID, when I lost the job I thought I'd have til I "retired": layout designer for my local newspaper. Since then, I've been working in a grocery store, thinking it would be temporary til things "got back to normal"... but they never did, and I think, never will. So I am definitely interested in creative opportunities!

My Site: http://www.norncutson.com/
My Shop: https://www.redbubble.com/people/norncutson/shop

And here are my four most recent pieces. I am ALWAYS working on something, I've got sketches going, WIP going, and dreaming up (sometimes literally!) new ideas all the time!

Follow me for more!
I'm always posting sketches, WIPs and digging through old files!

Thanks for reading!

My take on the cover art of Shakespears Sister's GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD.

A blue-tinted image. Two white women posing, one in profile, looking skyward, elegant; the other gazing directly at the viewer, creeping up in goblin mode.

Text, top right corner, thin pale blue handwritten scrawl: "Shakespears
Sister
goodbye
cruel
world
x".
My take on the cover art of Alice Coltrane’s JOURNEY IN SATCHIDANANDA.

On an orange gradient background, a cis black woman sits on bended knee, in a sage blue and metallic gold kurta. She looks deep in heavy thought. Her hair is in a tight afro, she wears a headband that matches her outfit. She wears wooden beads and a gold necklace. The tail of her robe is spread out before her.

Text in center top, pale yellow sans serif: "ALICE COLTRANE". Below, n yellow sans serif: "JOURNEY IN SATCHIDANANDA. Below, in thin pale yellow sans serif: “Featuring".

Below, in pale yellow sans serif; "PHAROAH SANDERS".
My take on Senorita Dido, of TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN.

A black and white image of a pale, moon-faced Latin woman. She gazes directly at the viewer with large, calm, dark eyes. She has a beauty mark over her right lip.
She has a modest feather headdress, jeweled barrette, layers of necklaces, and a dress with a regal collar. The dress has sequined detailing over sheer fabric. We see her in head-and-shoulders-view against a black background.
My illustration of the band Lush!
The four band members, from left to right: Phil King, Emma Anderson, Mili Berenyi and Chris Acland.
Phil stands with hands on hips, looking serious, wearing a black outfit with white V-shaped stripes. Emma is holding her guitar and wearing long sleeve ivory and ivory stockings under a black jumper. A white headband holders her dark hair back, and her bands shield her eyes. Miki wirlds her guitar. Her flaming red hair stands out, as does her green t-shirt with red trim, polka dot sequined skirt, ripped black stockings and red shoes with gold buckles. Chis is wearing a comfy cozy ivory fisherman's sweater, as he pops out from behind Miki, smiling and laughing.
Behind them is a psychedelic swirl of colors, lights, patterns and textures.

I've been playing around with botanical illustration. Maybe try some more plants in this style - two colors, clean background, graphite and digital color. # # # # #

I painted this 'Dancing Kachina' during a Stan Kurth workshop. He is a great artist and excellent instructor. It is more abstract than I normally work, which pleases me.

working on a study .

This piece is a study only and a gift for someone. I'm practicing technique by studying several artworks and photographs. Half the image is my own drawing and composition, but that's not enough to claim as original work.

I'm super happy with just - successfully - doing the layering and waiting bits, without overworking, and studying light. it might turn out super cool, and i'll use what I learn in my own stuff. Happily.
Vertical rectangular unfinished watercolor image of a night-blue background and a warm sunny yellow blooming rose, with three yellow rosebuds and a few pale desaturated green-yellow leaves. There are light speckles and flecks in the blue above the flower, and droplets of gold.

By Jane Crowther. A fuzzy, lazy, black kitten peeks out with one eye from among pleasing rumpled bedding and piles of pillows. A white scribbled sheet and colorful old fashioned chintz quilt cover most of the bed, and the seven pillows all have differently patterned covers. Zzzzzzz.

Royal Talens Van Gogh Water Colour Pencils review ✏
http://cwtam.inobscuro.com/royal-talens-van-gogh-water-colour-pencils-review-206/

Possibly the least known artist grade watercolour pencils. Finding reviews for these was so challenging! I wrote my own to help other artists decide if this set is right for them.

They're not easy to find in stores, but they're a ✨fully lightfast range✨ to complement watercolour paint at a reasonable price.

Alright, finally going to introduce myself around here:

I'm Lannan! I'm a # creator, #, #, #, #, and # dabbler! A lot of my work is inspired by the Weird, the Wacky, the Wondrous, and very occasionally, the sublime. (There's also fanart sometimes.)

I'm interested in #, #, #, and # with my traditional work.
A square painting: a black background with a thick, red, trifurcated squiggle winding down the middle, terminating with circles of red on the ends. At the very bottom is a thin, bright blue line.
A large landscape painting of red, desert mountains under a black sky with blue clouds and a thunderhead. Various bands of color section the painting into mountain section, cloud section, and abstract section, which is at the very bottom and features a wavy green design and an abstract representation of Tlaltecuhtli, the Earth monster in Mexica myth. Oil and hand-made casein paint on canvas.
A digitally colored illustration of the Mexica God Ehecatl riding on the back of a black, 8-legged deer with gold bands across its face that link it with Tezcatlipoca. Ehecatl is carrying a shield and an incense burner, with great plumes of smoke coming from it. Around him and the deer are stylized bones, skulls, flames, and stars.

mixed media artwork using acrylic paints and handmade collage papers. There is a flower sketch in the top right corner, a vintage image of a bird on the left, a stamped rainbow at lower left. Collage + acrylics = robin! I find it quite enjoyable to browses through old magazines and catalogues to grab colours and textures for a mixed media piece.

# # # #
A mixed media piece depicting a Eurasian Robin. The bird is takes up most of the image and is very round. The art style is messy and loose, consisting collaged magazine and catalogue pieces and finished with acrylic paint.

Yesterday I went to a really neat art workshop about drawing trees. Learnt some new techniques for masking with watercolours, and had a fun time playing around with mixed media. This one is a mix of watercolour, oil pastel, tissue paper and acrylic pen.

# # #
A mixed media piece of a tree on some grass. The trunk and branches of the tree are a vivid orangey brown and the sparse leaves are a yellowish green. In the background there are some more trees in the distance - these are less defined. The picture uses a mixture of watercolour, tissue paper, oil pastel and acrylic pen to give a slightly abstract and messy appearance.

'like water in your hands' 🥀
oil and acrylic yarn (punch needle embroidery) on canvas, 115 x 90cm.

# # # # # # # #
a vibrant, colourful oil painting of multiple different images layered over the top of each other. One image is a close up, side profile of fiona's head and shoulder, and overlayed is a picture of two hands positioned diagonally across the frame. The colours are unnatural and inverted. There are patches of punch needle embroidered yarn in solid blocks of colour throughout the painting.

Happy # from me and this drawing of my mom's chonky cat, Tillie, with an embroidery floss yarn detail.

# # # # # #
A red, orange, and white colored pencil drawing of a cat laying down with a small ball of yarn.

I've been feeling a bit more of a mixed media thing lately, specifically with these old Reader's Digest pages I have lying around from a bookbinding project.

# # # #
A watercolour and coloured pencil picture of a person with long blue hair and blue-white eyes with no iris or pupil. Their head is resting on one hand, and they're in front of a swirling gold and yellow background. There are large teardrop shapes dotted around the painting made of cut out book pages.

I'm starting on a new painting. But I just lost a year of photos (fakking computer føkk) so I dug true some old ones for material. Doing this i found this drawing which I think is kind of kool.
