Love prevails. The SCOTUS has declined a petition that would challenge the court's previous ruling on same-sex marriage. 🫶 # # # # # # # # #

We're almost there! 729,288 votes of 1,000,000 collected!

EU citizens, please sign this petition to ban so-called "conversion therapy" in the EU. It's a practice that's extremely harmful towards LGBTQ+ people.

https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home

It's already banned in some countries but we need a EU wide ban!

We now have seven countries past their thresholds, BUT we need at least 1,000,000 total votes.

We need another 271,000 more votes for this to reach . We can do it!

So keep signing & voting!

This is why we write.

A review of BATTLE DRAGON, the last in the DRAGONS OF ESTERNES series.

You can start here: https://taupress.com/rebel-dragon?__src=MD2211

Review text as follows: "I have rarely binge bought and read an entire series, but this is one I definitely powered through in 2 days and have already recommended to friends and family. The characters were distinct, the interactions believable, and the world building was very well done.<br /><br />I appreciated that each of the characters were flawed, and much like real life, they struggle with their flaws. The over-reaching themes were relatable and resonated really well. Honestly I'd love more of these characters but I also loved the way it ended, too.<br /><br />For me, the most rewarding part was the LGBTQ+ representation, which was done in a believable manner, and honestly the conversations about those topics in the book were ones I and my friends have had. It was validating."

Happy Pan Visibility Day to all pansexual and panromantic folks and all those who celebrate it!

For the occasion I drew a picture of Conor (who is pan) from my webcomic "Spotlights and Poison".

I hope you like it!

Designs I made for a grassroots Anishinaabe two-spirit council that was formed in 2023.

And we can promote the heck out of each other. We are stronger together. Closing from Mastodon•ART 🎨 Curato @Curator ( https://mastodon.art/@Curator/110292582287364639): “...with a thread for “BIPOC creatives, please tag yourselves! Introduce your work, provide pictures, add your shop/donation links. Everyone else: please boost the heck out of the replies!”

We are in a moment, and moments like this don’t come along often. This is a lot bigger than which UI has more bells and whistles, or what features you prefer. This is our opportunity to throw off the yoke of corporate predation. To free social media from walled gardens. We won’t get another chance. We are all in this together.

Try to understand these critiques, even if it does not jive with your experience. They are not ‘wrong.’ It takes time to address technical shortcomings and resolve conflicting feature set issues. But for the future of this great experiment, we need to do so in a spirit of inclusiveness, kindness and understanding.

Wise words on moderation of targeted harassment from Vrimj @Vrimj (https://mastodon.sandwich.net/@Vrimj/110295385218297439): “...we routinely put people who don't experience a form of harassment in charge of detecting it and it is just as likely to fail.”

And JT the Artful @jtphillipsmnr shares his journey (https://mastodon.art/@jtphillipsmnr/110290363287096605). “...by the time a Black person gets to their 2nd (or so) racist server with confusing infrastructure they might be 100% fed up and off of Mastodon for good.”

A good place to start listening is @kissane ‘s essay (https://erinkissane.com/blue-skies-over-mastodon). She says, “I hate it that I can’t in good conscience encourage Black friends to get on Mastodon, because I know they’re going to be continuously chided by white people if they mention race or criticize anything at all about Mastodon itself.”

It is not easy to build an inclusive world spanning social network. There are technical challenges and there are human challenges. Listening to each other and resisting the urge to dismiss concerns, or demand quick fixes is challenging. Patience is hard, and it is particularly difficult if we don’t feel like we are being heard. So let’s listen, even if it is hard.

Growing pains...

Months in now to the great #, and our community is being tested. Mastodon is not perfect. The interface needs polish, the feature set is a source of contention, and shiny new objects hold out promises to solve everything that frustrates us. But for all that, it is an amazing phenomenon. A rag-tag, people powered network threatens corporate domination of social networking. Together we can do this.

🌈 QUEER TRASH, ASSEMBLE! 🌈
My pride collection is dropping in two weeks on Valentine's Day, set yourself a reminder!

With three dope pin and sticker sets available, you can get your trashy paws on them early at Big Gay Out in AKL, or on February 14th at pepperraccoon.com

A text-based image that reads PEPPER RACCOON, Queer Pride Collection, IRL at Big Gay Out, online on Valentine's Day. There's an artwork featuring a cartoony raccoon with an angry facial expression and a multi-coloured tail. The artwork reads QUEER TRASH!

I have noticed my follower count is lower (but rising faster than it did on Twitter or Instagram), yet engagement is at a higher ratio and the quality of engagement is much, much higher! It is real interaction, not just simple four-word replies for others to notice 💙 Mastodon is where it is at, especially for # # like me! 🏳️‍🌈💙

❤️‍🔥 Sariel, prince of god ❤️‍🔥
Another one of my introspective self-portraits. I make one at the end of each year and try to capture the relationship between my body and my gender identity throughout those past months. This one represented 2020.
(I’ll link the most recent one in a toot below) ✨

# # # # # # # #
A digital painting portraying Sariel, the artist, as an angelic creature with red feathery wings and hair and turquoise skin. They’re portrayed from the head to right below the waist. They’re slightly contorted, hugging their chest and hiding half of their face with a hand. Their lower arm shows off one of the tattoos they have in real life, a snake and roses wrapped around their forearm. (Maybe one day I’ll have the self confidence to not have to hide myself behind my own limbs in one of these portraits. I’m getting top surgery in about a week, so this year’s piece promises to be interesting).

"It's incredible," the young king observed, "But is it in vogue?"

"Absolutely," the royal tailor assured, "You'll turn many heads, your majesty."

The king fidgeted, "Is it in vogue in Thua?"

The tailor blinked, "I believe so, your majesty."

"Are you sure..?"

"Why's it matter, your majesty?"

The king blushed, "I want to court Thua's king."

"Oh, then I shall double-check out and make any appropriate adjustments, your majesty!"
