Where is the way out?

I just discovered this workshop is happening now and I'm pretty sure I have time for it this week so here's my day 1 sketch.

My theme seems to be anger at the stupidity of the systems we all live in. I think I'll be sketching these in ink, watercolor pencil, and wash.

I'd like to thank @dansup for creating Pixelfed. As an artist, for 10 years now I was basing my career primarily on IG, only to see it erode to zero reachability and zero discoverability. IG is a career destroyer now. So when I put all my efforts on Pixelfed, suddenly, I saw growth again! 100 new followers in just 3 weeks! Which proportionally to IG's 0 new followers, given the fewer number of users here, it's a big deal! It feels good again to use social media as it's supposed to be: chronologically, and tag-based. Finally, we can see, and discover things! Things are growing! Again, thank you @dansup for this service, it's awesome!

I was testing my new set of Arrtx pencils and Norberg&Linden paper with incredibly cute Mimosa (character belongs to @kyber_punk ).
I am very much in love with the result! I love the way these pencils layer and the texture this paper gives. Together with that the paper is rather thin, so it is important to be as gentle as possible.

The Majestic Strawbluffalo in all his juicy glory.

Ink and pencil crayon drawing of a buffalo-strawberry hybrid. The illustration is subtitled “The Strawbluffalo.” The Strawbluffalo is a juicy, bright-red beast with stubby little legs like a corgi. He doesn’t have articulated joints or even a neck, rather he’s much like a gummy bear, stretching and squishing to move his head and get around. His body is speckled with little yellow seeds, and his head is capped with a green strawberry leaf bunch. Protruding from his leafy toupée are two strawberry vine horns, each curled like a mountain goat’s horns.

G'morning! Here's another beetle illustration I worked on last year! This one is of a giant rhinoceros beetle.

Thanks so much for all your kind words so far on my art, I can't get over just how friendly and lovely everyone is here. Such a different experience from the hellsites that are Twitter/Insta

Some technical ramble: I used Polychromos, Pablo and Luminance pencils, on Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed watercolour paper, with odourless mineral spirits to blend. # # #

The beetle looks very similar to an atlas beetle - it has 3 very long horns protruding from its head. It has a shiny, smooth, black body, which is reflecting subtle hues of blue and pink. Its six legs appear slightly spiky and it has long sharp hooks for gripping things at the end of each foot.
