In 2023 I started teaching myself Clip Studio Paint as I began experimenting with an alternative to working exclusively with vector drawing. The process is much less demanding and intensive than my vector art workflow and produces a much more innate style.

This one was made between July and November 2024. I'm still not sure if it's done but I might get it printed up and have some fun hand finishing it.

The drawing, which was done using the digital art medium, is based on a scene from the movie “Chungking Express” by Wong Kar-wai. <br /><br />However, unlike the movie, the palette is black, white, grey, and halftones.<br /><br />A man and a woman are sitting together at a bar. The lighting and ambiance suggest an intimate setting for these two. The man, dressed in a pinstripe dress shirt and a loose tie, held a glass cup against his cheek. His eyes are closed, and his hair is slightly disheveled. His other arm leaned on the table’s surface, presumably to help him support the weight of the woman leaning against him. <br /><br />This woman, his company for the night, had an air of mystery about her. She wore cat-eye style sunglasses, a trench-coat, and a blond wig in a midi cut styled with pin curls. Reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s hair for a better visual. <br /><br />As she leaned on him, the woman’s head was turned up. But since her sunglasses obscured her gaze from us, it isn’t exactly clear where she is looking at. We can assume, however, that she is looking at something at the ceiling. The Tabernas Oasis Series.
While exploring the Tabernas desert in January, I came across an oasis. Or, at least, that is how I would describe it. This is the 7th and final photo in the oasis series - all photos were shot on film.
